Horse Girl: A Journey Home

at age nine, as I sat on a horse for the first time, an unbreakable bond was forged.

It set the stage for a lifelong odyssey for this determined girl and her devotion to her equine companions.

As I took the road less traveled, I found myself fighting the constant pressure to fit the norm and perform. I battled the societal traps of who I was expected to be, but, in the end, through my bond with my horse, I found a way to break free. When I did, I found myself living my dream life, even before I knew what it entailed.

The Portal of Grace

Home » riding

The Portal of Grace is a space we can open between us, humans and herds, and beautiful gifts flow through.

The external uncertainty of this process we are in as a herd is a constant reminder to trust my inner guidance. Every time I look outside for results that can reassure, or ideas that can provide resolution, I don’t really find much! Except of course for the clear love and glowing happiness in the horses to tell me nothing is missing.

One time when I was with the horses, I felt the imbalance of me perceiving myself as in front of the herd, trying to be the responsible party, to assume leadership. There was a clear energetic process as I felt my Self that was sticking out in front melting and dissolving. Then there was a sense of us all aligning into the frontier that is moving forward. We are all moving forward as one, bringing this in.

Your Horse Believes In You

I had the idea of writing about my teaching philosophy, since I started Inspired Riding

That was back in 2009. I even wrote a small ebook and a guide for Equestrians and Instructors. Those were certainly wonderful to have out there, but I felt like there was more to include at some point. It wasn’t until this past year, 2022, when I realized that it was finally time to sit down and write it out. I had accumulated so much more life experience to flush out a more comprehensive entire book.

I got very clear messages from my horses that they wanted their very own section, to offer specific messages to humans. This way, I was able to divide the book into three parts. My teaching philosophy, my life journey, and the messages from the herd.

I feel very strongly that it will help so many more in the horse world and I am very proud that it’s available now. I hope that anyone who reads it, will find more ease, grace, and inspiration in their life.

The Liberating Power of Riding a Horse Bitless

Home » riding

There are so many reasons why riding bitless is the next step for many in our holistic horsemanship awakening

Riding a horse bitless might be seen as the latest fad or fashion in equestrianism. I feel it is more accurate to say it represents our spiritual awakening. It is another manifestation of our growing ability to listen, and to respond to the horses in our lives.

When I started riding ponies, the equipment I was required to use was never in question. I imagine this is true for most of us. The bridle plus bit, and saddle were fetched from the tack room. Maybe a martingale or a breastplate were included, or some other form of extra security. This tack always seemed so cumbersome and uncomfortable, saddle pads and numnahs often caked in dried sweat and grease. In particular the girth might be hard and brittle. Even as a child it felt somehow disappointing to present such wondrous beings with this equipment.

The children who were able to discover a pony in a field with nothing but the two of them, body to body, innocent of rules or traditions, were blessed indeed. How different it becomes to reconsider every step we take, every habit and technique that we employ and see it in a different light.

Finally, Dawn described the fascinating workshops she has been developing throughout her life with horses. Dawn has also worked with the charity Key4Life, taking horses into prisons in the UK.
