Camille Dareau

Camille has been involved with horses from a young age. She went on to explore various spheres of competition, teaching dressage and bringing on young horses. Working with horses who had developed dangerous behaviours in their association with people became more and more important to her. She had the opportunity to continue to learn with a growing herd of horses and began a path which became more holistic over time. Including the horses going barefoot, exploring natural trimming methods, letting the horses choose their own relationships, eat natural forage and discovering how to manage a herd without stables or rugs. She was always passionate about riding with an engaged posture and merging with the horse mentally and physically. Camille founded Happy Horse Training with her sister Gabrielle, she then expanded into Happy Horse Happy Human reflecting her spiritual process. Over time her approach to riding and training became less limited and the traditional practices were replaced with dialogue and listening to the horses. In recent times the horses themselves have been initiating their work together as a herd, and new patterns are forming. The inner journey has not only influenced Camille’s relationship with horses, it has influenced her work with humans in the founding of Soul Herd online magazine and community. Embracing the awakening journeys of all horse lovers has become increasingly important, and giving the horses a voice through their human guardians is her passion now. The horses have always been the heart centre of everything she creates, and she enjoys being able to stand aside and let their wisdom flow through.

Those unique moments of kinship are what having horses is all about for so many horse guardians

The value of kinship with horses has been coming through to me in the articles and the wonderful podcast discussions last month. Those moments of togetherness and clarity in communication are such a blessing. Quite often during this journey I have reflected how much easier it would feel to be working within a team. To relax into a sharing of responsibility and ideas. Although the freedom of being able to listen to my inner guidance and allow growth to be pressure free is invaluable. 

In those moments of feeling nervous about the technology and a little overwhelmed by the responsibility, I remember that I am far from alone! That all of the unique, talented and passionate contributors are the team. And of course, at the heart of Soul Herd, our forward thinking active members. They recognised so early on what is being created here for the horses. And I am sure that in time the right people will come forward if more internal support is required.

Excerpt from the Equine Dentistry podcast with Dan Astle-Carter

Equine Dentistry is the practice of removing rough and sharp edges of horses’ teeth, as well as balancing any significantly uneven wear patterns. Horses chew their food with a sideways motion of the jaw. Sharp edges develop because the horse doesn’t always use the entire surface of their teeth when chewing, so the central parts will wear faster.

Horses chew with a circular sideways grinding motion which dictates the wear pattern on their molars and over time creates sharp points on the inside edge of some teeth and the outside edge of others.

There are so many reasons why riding bitless is the next step for many in our holistic horsemanship awakening

Riding a horse bitless might be seen as the latest fad or fashion in equestrianism. I feel it is more accurate to say it represents our spiritual awakening. It is another manifestation of our growing ability to listen, and to respond to the horses in our lives.

When I started riding ponies, the equipment I was required to use was never in question. I imagine this is true for most of us. The bridle plus bit, and saddle were fetched from the tack room. Maybe a martingale or a breastplate were included, or some other form of extra security. This tack always seemed so cumbersome and uncomfortable, saddle pads and numnahs often caked in dried sweat and grease. In particular the girth might be hard and brittle. Even as a child it felt somehow disappointing to present such wondrous beings with this equipment. 

The children who were able to discover a pony in a field with nothing but the two of them, body to body, innocent of rules or traditions, were blessed indeed. How different it becomes to reconsider every step we take, every habit and technique that we employ and see it in a different light.

Let’s Talk Herd is up and running, and already attracting fascinating guests…

Let’s Talk Herd, the Soul Herd podcast started this month. Being in the presence of such like minded guests has been very inspiring, despite the occasional technical challenge! It truly feels like a quantum leap in terms of authentically connecting with kindred spirits. And the potential of collaboration seems so much greater now. Meeting face to face and talking with a real person is so much more natural and multi-dimensional.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it has been to engage with each guest. It has been like meeting old friends and clicking in to our favourite subjects. So many parallels are surfacing in these podcasts. Fundamental truths that we are realising and discovering in our individual journeys with horses. Going within for answers and following our inner guidance. And the horses show us how to do that just by being themselves.

Soul Herd is Expanding!

Soul Herd is only a month old and there has already been a fascinating process to share. Coherence in the human collective is a message brought to us by the horse collective. It is a message which reflects the more practical element of seeking contributors and members to join our vision. I have come to enjoy the vibrational changes as much as their physical manifestations, yet I had no idea starting out quite how powerful this project could be energetically.

It does make sense, to ask for so many highly sentient energies to come together and interweave. To create something together. So it is so much more than presenting a collection of articles, even though in themselves they are wonderful and full of new and exciting ideas. On a vibrational level, asking for those energies to align and find a mutual equilibrium is initiating a much deeper shift for us all.
